The Washington area is dealing with flooding, flooding! At the highest elevations, flash flooding events from rivers overflowing or rapidly falling as rain falls can easily wash over low-density ground. When rains hit roads and rivers like recent torrents at the weekend in the Hampton Roads peninsula of West Virginia. In Hampton, flooding reached record level over much of South Huntington yesterday morning, affecting two schools including Fitch Community Learning center in Hampton's town line. Over the course of one hour traffic along US 1, drivers were stuck behind a flooded bridge and near by houses in both counties. As such, in West Virginia the flood waters began to overflow on Tuesday from the nearby Kanamochoy river that has an outlet to Hampton about 1 hours from Virginia Tech in Virginia. [more...]
